What an interesting article, I had no idea that faith in the government was potentially so important to our feeling of community.
"But if I feel powerless in society, if I feel like I can't get a fair shake from my government, and feel cut off from my neighbors, it affects how I live my life."
That statement reminds me of a relative who is stockpiling guns and ammo. He sees bad things on the horizon that are directly related to his feeling betrayed by our government. The article make me want to make sure he knows he is connected to us and us to him so that he does not feel alone and helpless.

Blacks seem to have a greater lack of trust in government (especially law enforcement and the judicial system) and less of a sense of belonging. And, they have a high murder rate.

I don't remember who said it, but the following might apply:
"Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean there is no one after you".
I can't honestly say that with the government trying to run roughshod over just about everyone, that there aren't going to be some seriously unpleasant things happening in the near future.
If this country ever goes into another full blown depression, it is going to be exceptionally ugly. Too many people expect too much to be handed to them for nothing. They aren't going to just blindly give that up, regardless if the government can provide it or not.

Steven, your points are spot on and well taken. I am quite confident that my cousin will be OK if things turn nasty, I just don't want him to turn nasty first.

Studiously ignored is that the 1960s saw the radical reform of immigration and the planned, systematic dismantling of white identity and power.
Robert Putnam of Harvard -- in shades of Roth -- stated in an interview that racial diversity causes people to shut down and shut off. Roth cannot say such a thing and what we have instead is a piece in which anti-government sentiment -- which is always right and just -- is used to mark someone about to go crazy and shoot people. The gov't. uses divide and conquer tactics to keep citizens clawing at each other, knowing full well that racially diverse societies always collapse under the weight of mistrust, violence and perpetual victimhood. But Americans have become graced with an intense short time preference, so no one cares what the consequences will be in a few years for any public policy.
Roth's study begs the question why libtards and neocons continue to push for amnesty, open borders and mass legal immigration. I work with many immigrants and none of them ever express any love or sense of belonging to this country. I've heard complaints in recent weeks about awful the U.S. is and how some of them want to return to India.
Forget any sentiments for Western civilization as a whole, other than the material benefits.
Why? Because it's about money and status and the U.S. is seen as place where these can be more easily gotten than in the developing home countries. Many return to their home countries after they've saved enough money. Meanwhile, European-Americans are left to deal with the aftermath of the racial solvent poured out by the late Edward Kennedy and his backers. Whites are now forced to subsidize more and more non-whites, people who hate them and view them as the source for all misery. When and if socialzed medicine comes to this country, it's going to lay bare the fault lines. The producers of whatever race are going to react against the professional parasite class and unfortunately, racial differences are going to exacerbate the problem.
So, during this Great Recession (going into Depression next year), the U.S. continues to allow massive legal immigration. Believe me, people are paying much more attention to this stuff now. It's unfortunate, but the only way to get European-Americans together is to hit their pocketbooks and take away their jobs. If there's any good that can come out of this crisis, it's that whites may actually stck together and begin voting as a bloc for their interests. Whites need to start doing the same thing that Jews, blacks, Mexicans and women do re: any public issue: Pose the question is it good for us? If we do this, we can mitigate the disaster that's coming and restore the system which rewards accountability and productiveness instead of victimhood and parasitism.

It seems clear to me that the government has no interest at all in promoting trust from the people. They freely spit in the faces of most people on a daily basis, so it is hard to imagine that the US government places any value at all on the trust of the people today. We are seen as simply serfs to be manipulated, cornered, and mistreated. The recent machinations regarding health care are a prime example of this.
Perhaps this finding is not an altogether bad thing, provided those murderous intents could be directed towards the government that creates the discontent. We are ripe for revolution, and we need people who are ready to act.
