Happy Mother's Day

To all those moms out there, happy Mother's Day. Jules Crittenden has an interesting post entitled, "Motherthink" in honor of Mother's Day.

Update: Jack Lail at the Knoxville News-Sentinel put together a collection of Tennessee women bloggers for Mother's Day. I see two of my favorites on the list--View from the Front Porch by gun blogger Tamara K. and Domestic Psychology by Cathy, a mom of five.

"If women ran the government, there would be no wars of aggression. Women, for obvious reasons, have no need to prove how big their ‘equipment’ can be."

I don't know that Margaret Thatcher would agree with this. Although at the time of the Falklands war there was speculation in Argentina that she never wore short skirts because her balls would show...

Tomcal,

I had to laugh at this statement from Talkleft. If women ran the government, I think there would just be more secret police, not sure it would be an improvement.

Wow. Even Mother's Day provides an opportunity for you to spew your personal or political agenda. So crass, but I guess I've got to give you a little props for creativity.

So if you disagree with a wacky, gender supremicist statement like: "If women ran the government there would be no wars of aggression." you can't say anything if it is said in conjunction to Mother's Day?

So I should expect to be able to go around making statements like: "If women were relegated to chattel property like they used to be everything would be alright." and expect no opposition on Father's Day? (Note I don't feel this way, I support and believe in gender equity and object to slavery and indentured servitude. The statement was an example.)

Are you claiming that the original statement isn't gender supremacy? It's pretty bad when you can't recognize that a statement you're defending from criticism assumes gender supremacy, if that's the case.

To support the overcoming of male domination, the Daily Mail has posited, "So are all men just great big babies?"

I find it interesting that the women in the story can't seem to see that they create the situation. They treat their husbands as children, to which the men give in and enjoy being able to act childish. Many a new father has found himself denied the chance to care for his newborn by an overprotective new mother only to be accused of not participating in his child's care later on.

Summed up by this concluding quote:
"I fully intend to stay an eight-year-old well into my 80s and will happily spend my autumnal years racing my grandchildren up and down the drive in my bath chair - as long as my martyred wife is there when I topple over to put a plaster on my grazed knee and kiss it better."

Anyone who would say that if women ran the government, there would be no wars of aggression, has not been to high school.

There was a comedian who did a routine about women running countries. An excerpt that stuck with me is thus:

"Hello...this is England, why are you bombing us?"

"Oh...I think you know what you did to me!"

I don't read the Talk Left blog. And based on that one post, I don't imagine I ever will. The post was ridiculous and not worthy of comment, except by those who think it's fun to tell retarded people they're stupid.

And that, apparently, is just the kind of person helen is. Either that or she is so consumed by her own agenda that she will take every opportunity, no matter how ridiculous, to do spew.

Unless you all are willing to let me conflate Ann Coulter with your whole party. If so, let me know.

Possibly, but the sentiment in that comment is repeated all over the place, including in many mainstream venues. I think a lot of people miss the fact that its gender supremicist, so I think its worth commenting on.

Well if "retarded people" as you call them are trying to change the political, economic, and cultural landscape of this country to conform to their "stupid" (as you put it) ideas I think it is worth speaking up and also moving to oppose them. I probably disagree with Helen on many things, but she does come up with some good topics to blog on that often aren't noted elsewhere.

Unless you all are willing to let me conflate Ann Coulter with your whole party. If so, let me know.

Actually I'm not Republican.* I'm a libertarian, so I believe there are major problems with both parties. I disagree with Ann Coulter on many things.

*(I may still be registered as Republican. I don't bother changing this because it's a hassle. Plus if I was so inclined in a particular situation I could vote against the worst of the litter in primaries.)

Thank you for your considered response. (By the way, if helen's posts came off as equally sober and reasoned, I probably wouldn't complain nearly as often.)

"Possibly, but the sentiment in that comment is repeated all over the place, including in many mainstream venues. I think a lot of people miss the fact that its gender supremicist, so I think its worth commenting on."

Ann Coulter often appears in mainstream venues. I don't take that fact to mean anything except that those venues place ratings above good taste. So? Nobody worth taking seriously is taking her seriously. And the same goes for the Talk Left Blog.

What irks me is that some of these people think that it's perfectly reasonable for those of us who have made deep sacrifices in order to be at home to raise our own children to sacrifice again in the form of higher taxes to subsidize their choice to hire someone else to raise them.

And what's up with this father's paid maternity leave? Back in the day, the mother got leave for the term of her DISABILITY pursuant to childbirth. Leaves of absence were sometimes granted, but they were unpaid. It was something we took into account while planning our families.

I like the gun blogger. But for some reason reading through her site makes me think that I need an Accuracy International .338 Lapua Rifle, which would set me back probably $10,000 by the time I got it all tricked out the way I would want it.

So I think I will avoid returning to the site for now. Better for the budget.

So true!

I usually comment that people who believe that have never been in a quilt guild or the Ladies' Aid. A lot of the behaviors exhibited by high school girls don't phase out as they age.

"Women, for obvious reasons, have no need to prove how big their ‘equipment’ can be.""

Size of equipment - who is getting all that augmentation surgery, then?

Anyway, anyone who thinks wars are about anything but economics is playing stupid. War is organized robbery - not murder, robbery - and women have always been more than willing to enjoy the spoils of war. Why shouldn't they - they risk their men's live and they deserve a return on investment.

Mother's Day is more emotional blackmail masquerading as a holiday. With time and sufficient industry, this farce may one day reach the dizzy depths of it's even more nakedly venal, grasping cousin, Valentines Day. Any mother who encourages her progeny to participate in this mummery deserves censure, not Hallmark fueled 'respect'.

Women are special, gunner. Even if they don't want to be today.

I've yet to find a sunset, mountain view, flower, or brightly colored bird in the wild that comes close to a green eyed brunette for beauty that can take your breath away.
