In my therapy practice, I used to see men all of the time who were abused--but there was little support in the community for them. Finally Canada is starting to see the light--maybe the US will follow suit.

Short post, not many comments. Perhaps this is telling. In fact, there are a number of recent studies that show that women are as likely to assault their husbands as the reverse. Check with Dr. Martin Fiebert at: http://www.csulb.edu/~mfiebert/assault.htm. you will see that your practice is not the only place where this is happening. There is also, believe it or not, a domestic abuse hotline for men, operating out of Maine. Check their Web site out here: http://www.noexcuse4abuse.org/index.html
Thanks annonymous for the info on the website. People never want to discuss domestic abuse against men--apparently people either deny it happens or find it amusing. One day, a store was collecting cell phones to give to battered women's shelters--I told them I wanted to give mine to a battered men's shelter and one clerk told me it would be better to keep my thoughts to myself so others would not see how strange they were!
Domestic abuse happens to males all of the time, but apparently, women are perceived as so weak that they can do no harm. So women get away with violence in a way that prepetuates the very stereotypes that so many feminists say they are against--that of a weak woman.
I thought this is not true, until it happened to my family. My son is 6'0" 200 lbs., his wife 5'3" 120 lbs.
One night I got a call from my son that his wife had beaten him up! I was shocked, knowing how big a guy he is and how easily he can knock his wife if he so wanted. But no, this thing happened several times, for at least a year, until he built some guts to separate from her.
Shocking, really!
